Just a reminder MALA’s annual Legislative Day is scheduled for Wednesday March 27, 2019. We want to invite everyone to join us at The Missouri State Capitol to visit with your Senator and Representative and let them know collectively how we stand on issues that affect the operation of your facility and how it may impact your residents.
We will provide each participant a list of bills the association is either supporting or opposing along with talking points for you to use when meeting with your elected officials. Beginning at 8:30 a.m. we will have an informational table set up on the Third Floor Rotunda of the Capitol Building where you can get information regarding where your legislator’s office is.
Some people are a bit intimidated about meeting with legislators so MALA Board members will be available to go with you for support. Remember, your legislator is elected by the people in your district and are there to represent you so your voice is important and deserve to be heard!
You can also take this opportunity to speak with your legislator on issues that affect you directly. Whether it may be a recent survey or audit you had with DHSS, DMH or MMAC, or asking for an increase in the personal care payment or proposed regulatory changes that may cause unnecessary restrictions on your facility, this is an opportunity to meet with your legislator and let them know how things are impacting you. You can also use this time to speak with your legislator about a local issues that only pertains to your area if you would like. Your legislator can’t help you if they aren’t aware of a problem.
We hope to see all of you at the Capitol, March 28th!
